Vero Rose Smith

About Me

I have dedicated my career to serving others through nonprofit and education work. Though I have multiple graduate degrees and a decade of professional experience as a nonprofit administrator, museum professional, and educator, my salary has never exceeded $50K. As a first-generation college graduate and formerly low-income person from a rural place, I have struggled to build a career that is both meaningful to me and makes a living wage that will allow me to pay off my significant student loans, help my parents in their old age, and build a family of my own. My struggle is partially due to lack of access to professional networks. Most recently, I taught middle and high school learners at a progressive private institution in Chicago. My school closed permanently this summer. I am currently unemployed and looking to shift career paths and better utilize my training as a design researcher in the corporate sector.
