Industrial Designer joins the Career Map

The Career Map has its twelfth role: Industrial Designer, covering the design of physical products -- form, ergonomics, materials, and manufacturability.

It comes with everything the other roles have: four experience levels, the skills that matter (including four new ones -- sketching and ideation, CAD and 3D modeling, materials and manufacturing, ergonomics and human factors), real salary data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (May 2025 survey), and explained transitions into digital product design, service design, and design management.

Why now: our own analysis of live job postings showed industrial design as a real gap -- plenty of demand, no track. If you work in or aspire to physical product design, the Career Map now speaks your language.
