Getting started is three steps

The seven-step profile wizard is three: why you are here, who you are, and what grounds your work. Skip is one click, and a mentor application is only filed once you have answered its questions.

Joining Designed used to mean a seven-step wizard and then a separate screen asking what you wanted. It is three steps now. The first asks why you are here — to find a mentor, to mentor, or one of the other goals — and takes your agreement to the community standards before anything else. The second is who you are, the third what grounds your work. If mentoring is not why you came, the topics, languages and mentor questions are simply not asked.

Skip does what it says: on the second or third step it completes your registration and lands you on your dashboard in one click, and finishing lands you where your goal points.

If you chose to mentor, your application is filed only when you reach the questions our team actually reads, not the moment you picked Mentor. An empty application no longer lands in the review queue.
