Improve an Artifact: Fix This Error State

Goal
Practice redesigning a real, common failure state (a bad form-validation error) to be clearer and more inclusive, not just visually nicer.
Scenario
A checkout form currently shows a single red "Something went wrong" banner at the top of the page after a failed submission, with no indication of which field(s) are actually wrong.
Audience
A first-time buyer on a slow connection, possibly using a screen reader, who has already re-entered their card number twice.
Constraints
You're redesigning the error *state*, not the whole form — don't redesign fields that aren't part of the failure.
Deliverable
A description or sketch of the improved error state, including exactly what happens for a screen reader user (not just what it looks like visually).

Accessibility requirement
Explicitly describe the ARIA live-region behavior (or equivalent) for how the error is announced to assistive technology.

  • Specificity of error location: A user can tell exactly which field(s) failed and why, not just that something did.

  • Recovery, not just detection: Makes it easy to fix the problem, not just easier to see that there is one.
