A better mentor cluster on mobile, showing a fairer mix

On a desktop, the home page greets you with a scattered cloud of mentor photos. On a phone that collapsed into a plain four-by-two block of identically sized circles — the same faces, arranged like a spreadsheet.

It is a cluster now: eight photos in a tapering shape at varying sizes, much closer to what the desktop hero does. A small thing, but the hero is the first thing anyone sees.

The more important fix is who was in it.

We ask for mentors in a deliberately balanced way — an equal number of women and men — and then order them by who updated their profile most recently. The desktop hero shows twenty-six of them, so that balance holds. The phone showed the first eight of that same list, and "the eight most recently updated" carries no balance at all. If a run of men had happened to edit their profiles that week, a visitor on a phone saw eight men.

The phone now picks its eight the same way the rest of the page does — four and four, alternating — so the mix stays even no matter who edited their profile last.
